Bly Manor Event star Oliver Jackson-Cohen wanted to make sure his character, Peter Quint, was made human. The Visitation of Hill House Alum played the old ward of Henry Wingrave on the Netflix thrush, which was initially represented as something utterly boring. But as the show continued, Peter’s backing changed him.
Jackson-Cohen revealed what it was like to take on this role and why he aimed to make viewers feel for how hard his character was.
‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ urged fans to struggle with sympathy for Peter Quint
And don’t worry, Jackson-Cohen knows it’s hard for Peter.
“We wanted them to jump from, even in the middle of a program to going, ‘Oh god, it’s a sh * t piece,’ to ‘Oh, f * ck. That poor man, ‘”he said. “And I think that’s the kind of thing we do in our lives; there’s just so much sympathy – the truth is, it does something awful; he kills the man he loves. It makes sense to him. And then he tries to kill those kids, and it makes sense to him because of how desperate he is to seek. ”
Bly Manor Event now streaming on Netflix.
