Charlotte Stewart from Toilet on the Moor became Mrs Eva Beadle, a school teacher for the children of Walnut Grove, in 1974. On the historical drama for the first four seasons, Stuart has openly shared the struggles before with drugs and alcohol.

In her memoir, the Toilet alum described a relationship with the winner of this Academy Award that went from a party to his efforts to recruit her towards sobriety.

Charlotte Stewart was introduced to Richard Dreyfuss

In season 4, Ms. Beadle tied the knot with Adam Simms. Actor Josh Bryant, a longtime friend of Stuart, came to her husband’s on-screen career. One night, Bryant asked Stuart to gather at his house, where she immediately met him with rising star Richard Dreyfuss.

“Josh invited me in to a party at his house, where I met his friend Richard Dreyfuss,” said Stuart in her book. Small House in the Hollywood Mountains: A Bad Girl’s Guide to Being Miss Beadle, Mary X, and Me. “Richard and I had some chemistry and the next day he sent a limo to pick me up so I could come over and play.”

The two found plenty of common ground that ranged from the use of materials to board games.

“He invited me to an event to hear people talk about becoming solemn – something that had transformed his life,” Stewart recalled. “At the time, I was happy to go, assuming Richard just wanted to spend time with me. … It never occurred to me that he might have invited me because he thought sobriety was something I could benefit from. I just thought he had something for me. ”
