“There’s a good balance between perfection and crap, and I’m trying to find the middle ground,” Gaines said while making baklava, Salon recitation. “We don’t want things to be so perfect that you don’t have fun.”

It is very likely that the queen of the update will not reach Garten ‘s level of technical skills. But that’s okay, because she’s not trying. Gaines connects with an audience by being like her self-assured both on and off camera, even though that means making a fool of herself sometimes. She accepts simple recipes because she is good at it. And fans love to watch.

Similarly, Garten knows that not everyone who watches her cooking shows has any intention of getting out of the corner and jumping out of their nightly catch-up order. Her show is all about beauty, talent, and presentation. She connects deeply with her audience and meets them where they are. Just like Gaines does.
