Ina Garten’s ‘Barefoot Contessa’ Cooking Show Isn’t Scripted: ‘100% of the Dialogue Is Improvised’

She makes recipes from her cookbooks and says things like “How easy is that?” and “The source is OK.” According to Garten, it’s just what people see on the show. No script, just her in her East Hampton barn.

‘Barefoot Contessa’ has been on the air since 2002

Garten’s TV career began in late 2002. The Food Network launched its first program Contessa barefooted on November 30, 2002.

The show is named after the specialty food store that ran Garten for more than 20 years. In the 1990s, she sold the business to two of her employees before going on to release her first cookbook, Barefoot Contessa’s cookbook, in 1999.

By the time the first episode of her cookery show appeared, Garten had already written a second cookbook, which hit the shelves in March 2001. Expanding the recipes in her cookbooks, Garten made simple and tasty dishes on it. Contessa barefooted.

In the years since not much has changed about the show. Garten still wears blue shirts and the music is the same. She still cooks for friends and, of course, her longtime husband, Jeffery Garten.

The biggest difference is that Garten’s has become famous with a huge fan base and millions of Instagram followers.
