Anatomy Gray remains one of the most popular plays on TV. The show took Shonda Rhimes from a successful but not-so-famous writer to a household name, and inspired the careers of many of the actors who starred on the show.
He has been praised by fans and critics alike for improving his characters and plots while at the same time maintaining an engaging and accessible application, and earning award scores. It is currently being updated for a seventeenth season, and could last even longer.
But with such a long run, it’s only natural that the quality of the show changed over time. Some seasons and arcs are more endearing than others, and fans found some plotlines graphing. But one particular season caught a lot of fans. What season was it, and why were fans put off by a show they love?
‘Gray’s Anatomy’ and Eliza Minnick
Eliza Minnick’s character was introduced in Season 13. This season, Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital has hired a consultant to update their residency program after they decided some work was needed. Eliza Minnick was the consultant who came in to change the residency program, but residents and doctors disrupted her presence. In a short time, her efforts to gain more control over the hospital and some suspicious behavior by patients turned into an antagonist.
At the same time, she continued a relationship with a resident that some fans were rooting for: Arizona Robbins. Despite Minnick’s status as a seasoned villain, the show made efforts to bring her to a human level.
But in the end, she was fired from the hospital for being a sticker for protocol in an emergency, and her actress, Marina Dominczyk, did not wait for the show. The showrunners suddenly wrote about her relationship with Arizona, too.
Controversy over ‘Gray’s Anatomy’ character
Eliza Minnick, as an antagonist, was certainly a fan-worthy character. However, there are ways to write antagonists that are unlike humans but fun to look at as characters, and many fans of the show felt that Minnick did not succeed as an interesting character, which brought down the quality of season 13.
Even the actors had problems this season.
on the Anatomy Gray fan Reddit, a lot of fans were talking about how they jumped season 13 – mostly because of Minnick ‘s story. It has many characters Anatomy Gray with great hatred, but fans were not shy to refer to Minnick as “the WORST character on the show… EVER !!! ”
Some fans were a little more balanced, but still dissatisfied:
“I think Minnick had a point, but the whole thing was put to death and the actress wasn’t good so it was hard to get into.”
Some fans were keen to see her character develop with Arizona, while others thought her romantic plot was criticized as looking phony and inexperienced:
“Uhhh she had ZERO chemistry with Arizona. It was so funny when they grabbed it it was so bad. I can tell that they are both very straightforward. “
There were other issues of the season that fans had: the “deluca x alex plotline,” and the relationship between Jackson and Maggie. Of course, there are a few fans who enjoyed this season, the relationships he developed, and even Minnick ‘s character and story. However, it is like most Anatomy Gray fans see this as part of the series that doesn’t fit the rest of it.
Fortunately, fans are seeing the show have kicked back in quality – especially starting in season 15. And if the hustle and bustle of the new season is like nothing is gone , it looks like fans are still excited and engaged with this long series.
