Suffice it to say that 2020 has not been a positive experience for most people. Fortunately, small blessings are among the ongoing problems. In particular, Great British Bake Off back with a new season, new bakers, new challenges, and even new hospitality. With Sandi Toksvig retiring, Matt Lucas has joined the show as co-host Noel Fielding. Lucas seems to be thrilled to be a part of it all, but the story behind how he got on the show is weird. And it would be, since it starts with Noel Fielding.

Sandi Toksvig came in Great British Bake Off three years ago in 2017 with Noel Fielding. The duo replaced long-time guests Mel and Sue as the show moved on to Channel 4. Toksvig and Fielding quickly grew into their careers and soon reappeared. ‘kicked apart by a quick fire with a quick one-liner and a saucy pound.
Toksvig, who already has a bevy of incredible achievements under her belt, gave her time on the show a special treat – a side that added to Fielding ‘s humorous and brutal sense.
“When they retire it’s very common for people to say they’re doing it to spend more time with their family. Surprisingly I am leaving the Great British Bake Off so I can spend more time with my other work, ”wrote Toksvig in a statement about her decision to leave the show.
“As my partner will confirm, Bake Off is a fantastic show. Spending time with Prue, Paul and Noel is one of the great pleasures of my life. These are friends I know who persevere beyond the confines of television.
But, The sun reports that a source says Toksvig completely lost interest in the show.
“The feeling in the set had been lively and engaging, but as time went on Sandi seemed to like less and less and didn’t want to be involved,” they said.
Noel Fielding saw Matt Lucas in a dream
When Sandi Toksvig decided to leave, the search for a new co-host began immediately. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Noel Fielding had a dream that led him to praise Matt Lucas for his career.
“They were looking for a new guest, and Noel dreamed that I was the cohost. And instead of saying to the producers, ‘I dreamed that Matt Lucas was the cohost’, he said, ‘Matt Lucas would be a good cohost I think,’ and then I got a lab , ”Lucas said on Capital Radio.
After that, there was only a call and a lab, and in less than a week, Lucas was retained as the new co-host. Leave it up to Fielding to have a strange prophetic dream confirming the new guest.
Fans of ‘Great British Bake Off’ respond to Matt Lucas ’new role
Great British Bake Off fans have had mixed opinions to Matt Lucas coming into the show as Noel Fielding’s co-host. Some feel like their styles are too similar, and they miss Sandi Toksvig and her direct action to Fielding’s weird ideas.
“Their style of comedy is too similar, they are both unusual and Sandy Noel balanced out very well and could play apart,” wrote one Redditor.
“He’s not funny, and he comes across as difficult in his connections with the bakers. I’m not a fan and I thought Light Sandi was better, ”said another user.
However, others thought that Lucas was well suited for the atmosphere and for Fielding as well.
“I must have some junk humor, but I like it. A lot of Sandi’s jokes fell flat on me, and I feel like Noel has come alive with Matt on the team, ”said another. Bake off fan.
“I really like it. I think it’s really funny and the chemistry between it and Noel is really good, and I like the little conversations he has with the bakers. He’s just silly and clearly likes it, ”wrote one fan.
