‘Gilmore Girls’: 3 of Lorelai Gilmore’s Most Heartbreaking Moments With Her Father, Richard Gilmore

Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) had a strong relationship with her father with a bow tie Gilmore’s daughters. Crushed when Lorelai dropped out of high school after being pregnant with Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel), Richard Gilmore (Edward Herrmann) had to contend that his daughter’s life didn’t turn out as he thought.

Lorelai finally moved out of her parents’ house to raise Rory on her own. She settled in the fictional town of Stars Hollow. Just years later, and when her mother called her, she showed up for weekly dinners. Over the years, Lorelai and Richard had happy times but their fair share of scenes was also broken.

When Richard Gilmore explains why he was yelling at Straub Hayden

First aired on March 1, 2001, Gilmore’s daughters Season 1 Episode 15: “Christopher Returns” marked the introduction of Rory’s father, Christopher Hayden (David Sutcliffe). He visited Stars Hollow at the end of the previous section. Until then, it had been named only by name.

Christopher joined Rory and Lorelai for dinner at Gilmore’s house with his own parents, Straub (Peter Michael Goetz) and Francine Hayden (Cristine Rose). Dinner was not even served and an argument broke out. Richard defended Lorelai – or so she thought – before returning to his investigation.

Lorelai thanked her father for keeping up with her, thinking he had made it out for her protection. But Richard told her he did not do so just because the family name was being attacked.
