‘Friends’: The Hilarious Story Behind Ross and Monica’s Iconic New Year’s Eve Dance Routine

Follower Friends the program, “The One With The Routine,” features David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, and a cousin dance duo. The program on New Year’s Eve in Friends Season 6 is one of the most memorable shows due to the iconic dance of Monica and Ross – who made up as children and encore as adults on a special TV show. How did the usual practice come about?

When Vanity Fair she did interviews with broadcaster Robin Antin in 2019, she revealed what her direction was for Monica and Ross ’iconic climate.

“Monica and Ross were going to dance Rock on Rockin’s New Year’s Eve,” she says. Friends episode.

Properly titled “The One With The Routine,” the season 6 program aired in 1999. It’s about the Geller sisters being cast as dancers on Dick Clark’s Rockin ‘Eve. (Joey and his roommate are there too, but the norm is the real star of the section).

“They had to be very silly,” Antin continued. “… Their description for me was,‘ silly, fun, trying too hard, over the top, dancing so hard, just thinking they were the best ever. ‘”

Mission accomplished, we would say.

According to Antin, founder of the Bothan Pussycat, the Friends cast members were perfect dance students.

“When I brought in my choreography and showed them what it was like, they were, ‘This is so funny. This is so good. This is exactly what we want, ‘”she said.

Antin was also captivated by how quickly Cox and Schwimmer learned the moves. The even harder ones, like the leapfrog, picked up immediately.

“Every move I showed them, they were able to do it,” she said. “… I was like, ‘Oh, my God, how can you know how to do this?’”

Vanity Fair said the entire dance rehearsal “lasted somewhere around a week. ”Antin was also on the set the day they fired the scene. “She danced as Cox and Schwimmer mirrored her movements,” according to the release.

The Friends Stars even added their own “finishing touch” to their usual style.

Vanity Fair confirmed that it was Cox ‘s idea for Monica to carve in and out, “Five, six, seven, eight!” before they started dancing.

And while she was teaching Cox and Schwimmer, Antin had an explosion.

“I was laughing from the moment I arrived when I left,” the dancer told Vanity Fair. “And that was for everything I did with them, whatever it was. ”It has worked with Friends and other NBC TV shows several times.

Antin even came back to do the “dance for Danny DeVito’s guest appearance as Phoebe’s bachelorette party fighter in season 10.”

However, “The man with the norm” stands out in memory of Antin. (And of course, all hearts Friends fan).

“… The New Year’s program was something special,” Antin explained. “It was one of the funniest and most fun days I think I have ever had in any experience as a broadcaster. … It was wild. ”
