Paul Rudd went into the Friends a little longer than most, becoming a regular in season 9. However, early in filming, he was worried he would miss the gig due to a reckless accident.
By mistake, he put Jennifer Aniston ‘s new road over her already injured leg, frightening everyone who was ready that day.
Jennifer Aniston enjoyed riding segways when they first came out
By the time Paul Rudd became a member of the Friends cast, the segway had just been released to the market and was a hot commodity. Aniston was one of the first team to get one, and she entertained herself by riding around positioned between scenes.
Rudd recalled the time of a new interview with 2019 Howard Stern.
“It had a segway, I think it was the first program, maybe – it was the first or second program and it had a way because I think it was a good thing. It was new, you know, and it was going around the sound stage. ” Rudd said.
Everyone was ready to go on the road
Since it was still a technological thing, everyone was ready to ride the Aniston trail. Matt LeBlanc was the first to hop on him, and he was able to control it without issue. This gave Rudd a glimpse of her riding.
“And her leg was injured,” continued Rudd. “Looks like she was, I don’t know, I think she had a broken leg. Not that she needed a segway to get around, but she kindly used this thing. And so Matt LeBlanc wanted to try it, and I said, ‘Oh, can I try?’ You know, I’ve never been on one. ”
Paul Rudd ran over Jennifer Aniston’s injured leg with a segway
Rudd was clearly excited to cycle on the road, but things quickly went wrong. Aniston had tried to explain to him how it would work safely, but Rudd made a mistake and ended up riding straight over her injured leg.
“And she kept it as I stood on it and said, ‘Okay, just be careful because finding the middle of your depth is a challenge,'” Rudd said. “And I said, ‘Okay,’ and then she let go, and I started bending back or turning, and I turned the thing instead of going straight. And he was just running over her leg. A bad leg. ”
Everyone was worried about Jennifer Aniston
Since Aniston was the main character in one of the most popular TV shows ever, everyone would go out when she was injured. The crew knew they could not lose her, so the response was not good when the incident occurred.
“It went like, ‘Oh!’ and then I could tell… like, panic right away, ”Rudd said. “It included a group of people, writers and producers, and they were looking out of it. She said, ‘I’m fine, I’m fine.’ … ”
Even though Aniston was in real pain, she took it as a pro and insisted she was okay.
“She was in pain … I think that was the basic way in her, she’s like, ‘No, no, don’t worry, it’s fine, I’m fine, I’m fine, I just have to sit down for a second, ”said Rudd.
Paul Rudd was worried he would leave
As Rudd was relatively new to the show at the time, he was quite capable of replacing it. Knowing this, he was afraid that his minor accident would kick him out of the show.
“Nobody misses Mike Hannigan,” Rudd said.
