Hannah Ferrier from Below Mediterranean Deck shared that a chief steward working on a 40-meter yacht can expect to earn around € 5000 per month at no cost.
“I started [in yachting] for I fell in [love] le [the] south of France !! So I stopped through, ”she said tweet. “That’s why I created @oceaninttraina – because it’s really hard to know where to start! And it’s a good payoff. A main stew is around € 5000 per month at no cost! So no rent or bills! ”
She then clarified that the salary matched what a chief steward would do on a 40-meter yacht. “Below Deck is a 6 week season and Below Deck is filmed which is a whole other job! A typical 40m monthly head steward is € 5000 a month, ”she said shared. In dollars, € 5000 a month shakes out to over $ 6,000. Year-round work and a chief steward could make over $ 70,000 a year.
Staying cost-free adds more value to a yacht’s salary
Living rent-free, and having your food covered, can save you a lot of money. A chief steward said Refinery 29 that she was able to save most of her salary, banking at about $ 4,500 per month. “I don’t have to pay taxes because I don’t live in my own country, or anywhere for more than six months at a time,” she said.
In 2019, Rhylee Gerber told Showbiz Cheat Sheet ship owners that they will also pay for almost anything the crew wants. “If I wanted a $ 60 face mask, it would be paid for,” she smiled. She also said that the money she made in a yacht allowed her to meet a thirsty thirst. She spent a few months traveling the country in a van that drove her home.
“On private gates, there is definitely more free time to enjoy different coasts and countries,” he said. “On the big boats, especially charters, we would sometimes be lucky enough to set foot on land in a port in which we are entering before heading to our next destination. If we are lucky enough to get a few days between contracts, we would be able to go in and out. ”
