Trebek became his host Jeopardy! in 1984 when the trivia show was revived. He replaced former guest Art Fleming, who directed the show from 1964 to 1975, and again from 1978 to 1979. While Fleming was completing his run Jeopardy !, Trebek was taking his picture at showbiz via prime-time television.
Why Alex Trebek continued to host ‘Jeopardy!’ and other exhibitions
According to his book, The answer is… and previously cited by Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Trebek valued the work-life balance that came with an elegant salary as a guest. Speaking about an acting role he didn’t get earlier in his career, Trebek said:
“I didn’t get it, but she was praising. However, as I began to seriously consider making a career change, I started talking to many of my actor friends, and learned what their schedules were. ”
Trebek realized that many of his friends worked a lot more than he did while taking home less money. He quickly had a change of heart, and decided to stick to his receptions.
