Feis and the City it ended in 2004, which is not so long ago. But anyone who remembers the series knows that times have changed dramatically since the end of the series. Reruns reminds fans of a number of difficult subjects and scenes that deserve a cringe they would never do on television based on today’s standards.
But there is plenty of love and nostalgia Feis and the City rumors of a resurgence are continuing. The franchise includes two feature films as well as plans for a third that never started. Now, HBO has announced a limited series revival that will make their network streaming, although details are scarce.
However, there are more than a few reasons for a new cause Feis and the City just won’t work. Is it worth it?
The ‘Sex and the City’ remake will not have all the characters
At the heart of the work, Feis and the City four best friends continued to lead single lives in New York City. Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) relied on each other for support and friendship through all the challenges of life.
But at least one of them would not be present in the revival, which would change the overall vibrancy of the show. Cattrall has already promised that it was done with her SATC. Her refusal to participate is the reason the third film was never made, according to a statement. So relocation would have to explain Samantha’s absence and would result in deprivation.
The content is no longer innovative
When Feis and the City initially, there were no other shows with strong female characters talking openly about sex. But now? That genre is prevalent across all networks. Carrie and her friends set the pace for plenty of cups. However, looking back on the same subjects doesn’t feel moving – it feels predictable and harsh.
With more than two decades since the show began in 1998, times are different now. Do we really need another show about women, date, and sex when everything is done beforehand?
The purchase of ‘Sex and the City’ is less popular today
Obviously, Feis and the City gender treatment and date topics. But fashion was another main theme. The audience was mostly jealous of Carrie’s carcass, but the four women were intriguingly rich and wore it on clothes, bags, and Manolo Blahniks. This type of vapid purchase was common in the early 2000s. But now? Some demographics are getting tired of all the abuse.
The show would not be the same without high fashion. Who could picture Carrie hunting H&M cleaning racks? But in a world where many women have embraced minimalism and frugality about shopping, there may be no place where Carrie ‘s pleasurable lifestyle fits.
The ‘Sex and the City’ films were unsuccessful
While the creators hadn’t tried remodeling before, both went Feis and the City movies serve as a warning story for how bad things can go for the series. The first one was criticized only for being unnecessary and out of communication.
However, the second film was completely offensive, ending at the time Carrie showed her open leg while wearing a burqa to pull a cab while the girls visited Abu Dhabi.
If the movies are any indication of how the re-enactment might go, it’s best to just avoid it altogether.
Most TV remakes will not work
It’s natural to want classic shows revived and revived. However, most of them don’t live up to the original series. Gilmore’s daughters, Full House, Melrose Place, Arrested improvement, 90210, Roseanne… The list goes on.
There is no reason to believe that Feis and the City would be any different. It is perhaps better to leave the memories of this perfect 2000s series intact rather than ruining it by other unnecessary remakes.
