Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham on Monday warned against snide comments about successful women especially in the entertainment sector.
Toyin said this in response to a post by Nigerian rapper Ruggedman about female actresses making him bigger than their male peers in the entertainment sector.
Ruggedman was in office last week asking why his male colleagues weren’t doing as well as the females.
Responding via her Instagram @toyin_abraham, Toyin said she understands what message Ruggedman was trying to convey but finds it sad that many took the opportunity to use insulting words against female actors. .
She said that a woman is more than the total amount of her sex and that most women do great things legitimately.
Toyin explained that men need to stop putting the success of every woman on her sexual ability with men.
According to her, women deserve the success they are getting as much as men without giving it to their gender.
She wrote, “I saw the social media role done by a famous rapper, a rough man about women making more money and doing better than men.
“I read between the lines and saw what the rug meant. It’s a little sad that a lot of people on social media went ahead with a lot of deceptive comments about women especially ours in Nollywood.
“It’s important that I put this out so that many women make money and do it legally. I know of actresses who charge between two and five million in this Nollywood.
“I get paid in millions of naira for gigs as a matter of fact; I just paid for a really good car worth millions. At the same time, I know a lot of people in Nollywood who are doing really well and have paid millions.
She also said that most choosing not to make noise on social media does not mean they are second class citizens in this industry.
