Will Smith’s Reason For Turning Down 1 Role Is a Sign He May Never Play Another Superhero

Many A-listers have aligned themselves with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DCEU. Superhero movies are very popular, and they have huge budgets. So they attract big name actors. Even small parts are usually played by actors and actresses with at least some name recognition. Interestingly, however, one actor with a big name has rejected parts in the MCU.

Will Smith has a lot of range. He has been in everything from drama, to comedy, to Sci-Fi and action. But he won’t be adding a Marvel character to his resume anytime soon.

Will Smith has played superhero before

Smith has been in on all sorts of films. In fact, he’s been in superhero movies before. It may not be part of the superhero franchise out there, but Hancock he was probably better than Superman for Smith anyway. Smith was offered the position of Superman at DCEU, but was rejected. Instead, he chose to play a less traditional hero.

Hancock it appealed to Smith because he is not the usual superhero. The film’s introduction is darker than most superhero movies, and the character allowed Smith to add comedy to the role, which is what he did best. According to Smith, Hancock get away with being dark because the audience is too busy laughing with the comedy.

That’s something that appeals to Smith. “You can get away with all sorts of things if it’s funny. It’s like living on that edge of comedy, and that’s what I think is the beauty of this film.

Smith rejected ‘Superman’ for this sad reason

Smith was able to bring his own comedy to Hancock, and fans are the best for it. But what about Superman? Not many actors would turn down the opportunity to play the Man of Steel, but Smith did. He was offered the top job Superman returns, but he turned it down.

He’s a huge Superman fan, so the decline of the role must have hurt, at least a little bit. Smith is not crazy about missing out on the post, but his reason for turning it down is very sad.

Smith did not want to be Superman because he feared offending white Hollywood. If Smith had accepted the role, he would have been the first Black Superman. According to Smith, “You will destroy the heroes of white people in Hollywood, you will never work in this city again! ”

He may have been joking about not working in Hollywood again, but black actors who are tossed in white roles often criticize many online, trolling, and even death threats. Idris Elba was launched for James Bond, and he got a lot of hatred for it without even taking the job. Perhaps Smith wanted to save himself from that kind of trouble.

Would Smith ever join Marvel Universe?

Smith has never played a character in Marvel Universe, or been offered one as far as we can tell. But more than that Hancock, Smith played another character in the DCEU. Smith was involved in Deadshot Suicide squad.

Since Smith has already entered a competitive franchise, it is very likely that he will sign any Marvel films.

However, even if Smith were to go over to the MCU, it probably wouldn’t be if the original Black character wasn’t in the comic books. He’s reportedly considered for Mr. Fantastic’s role, but traditionally that character is white, so Smith may not feel comfortable saying yes for the role.

Smith seems willing to accept traditional white positions, and with good reason. It could face a lot of backlash, and bad behavior from racist users of social media. Smith’s acting skills are at a high level. Hopefully in the future he won’t feel the need to consider race when deciding which positions to take.
