Will Smith recently opened up about the connection he shares with his daughter, Willow Smith.
Willow is Smith’s youngest child with his wife, Jada Pinkett. Both Smith and Willow have exhibited their relationship on the Willow and Jada show over the years, Red Table Conversation. Smith also recently reconnected Prince Fresh Bel-Air co-star, Janet Hubert.
Will Smith says his relationship with Willow Smith is ‘the only female relationship I’ve ever had that didn’t bother me’
In November 2020, Smith rejoined his successful 1990s exhibition, Prince Fresh Bel-Air. The reunion gave Smith and his teammates Tatyana Ali, Alfonso Ribiero, and Karyn Parsons a reflection on the show’s legacy 30 years later. Through the special, Smith also talked about his past issues with Hubert. Hubert played his aunt Smith for three seasons before she left the series. Over the years, Hubert and Smith’s controversy precluded any chance of them speaking in person again.
Forward Red Table Conversation, Smith said his conversation with Hubert might not have happened had it not been Willow’s father. Throughout his life, Smith said he sought safety and approval from his female peers. When Hubert did not respond to his jokes, Smith was desperate for her support. He shared that Willow is helping him understand when those feelings come up so he can fight them.
“Over the last three years, I’ve seen it and opposed it more effectively,” he said of his insecurity. “My relationship with Willow has been a key part of healing.”
