Rob Packer Rob Lowe and Toilet on the Moor star Melissa Gilbert started dating when they were 17. From their first date, they formed an intense bond. Why wasn’t Lowe at Gilbert’s 18th birthday then (an important birthday for a former kids star)?
Melissa Gilbert’s 18th birthday
Gilbert celebrated her 18th birthday at the top of the Sunset Strip.
“The party included a DJ, all my friends, and Rob’s younger brother, Chad, who was like my own little brother,” Gilbert wrote in his memoir, Prairie story. But Lowe is not.
He had filmed a place The strangers, the film that would capture his career and change his life forever. From Tulsa, Lowe sent to Gilbert “a dozen dozen roses with a card that said,‘ To my legal child. ‘”
Also on her birthday, Gilbert received a phone call from Warren Beatty. They had met a month or two earlier filming “Night of 100 Stars” in New York. At the event, Beatty had asked Gilbert when she was turning 18. According to Brooke Shields, he investigated the Toilet star clump. Of course, on her birthday, Beatty named Gilbert and sang “Happy Birthday” – and we started a friendship that continues to this day. ”
Rob Lowe was away filming ‘The Outsiders’
If Lowe had been to Los Angeles, he probably would have been Gilbert’s 18th birthday. It would have been front and center. But he was away filming Francis Ford Coppola’s big-screen adaptation of SE Hinton’s age-old novel, The strangers. Lowe often mentioned Gilbert for filling him in on the plays that took place both on and off the screen.
The Toilet star is also marked by getting nose work.
“When I was little, it was nice,” Gilbert wrote. “But as I grew up, it got wider and flatter and there was a little bump. And the fact is that your nose is growing after your rest stops. I was afraid I would stop at five feet four inches but have the nose of an NFL six-five lineman. ”
So she had surgery (and two more times to repair it) and “[hid] from anyone. ”
“It wasn’t a big deal,” Gilbert wrote.
