When they met and put the conflict aside
Elizabeth Smith (nee Barry) was born on April 2, 1984. Elizabeth was a cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders and met the man she would marry when they were both in the Bay Area.
They decided to postpone their competitions and go on a date. For that first date, the pair went to the St. Patrick’s Day Festival in San Jose, California. Afterwards, they met Alex’s close friend, David Edwards, and had lunch.
When Edwards died by suicide in 2008 Alex said ESPN, “Calling David a best friend does not do relationship justice. It was more like an adoptive brother to me. It was close to everyone in my family. “
Alex turned to Elizabeth through the grieving process. She also lamented that she lost an uncle around the same time. The couple tied the knot in 2009 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco and honored the two men at their wedding.
