The family relationships kept viewers coming back. That’s why it might come as a surprise in the beginning, Cosby Show consider stealing a classic element of I Love Lucy.
‘The Cosby Show’ was innovative at the time
The Huxtable family included Cliff, his wife, Clair and their five children. The show was re-broadcast for everyone.
The stories showed everyday life how to get your picky eater to eat vegetables and what to do when your kids start going backwards. The show also looked at some taboo topics like teenage pregnancy.

Who is Clair Huxtable?
The matriarch of the Huxtable family was not a fine housewife. She would travel from Brooklyn to Manhattan every day to practice law at a prestigious firm.
While her husband had a successful career as an OBGYN, he supported his wife’s aspirations. In fact, he chose to work out of their home so that he could take on household chores and childcare responsibilities.
There were several times dealing with sex roles, but one program in particular stands out. The eldest daughter, Sondra, took a boyfriend home for dinner. The boyfriend questioned Huxtable’s choice to work outside the house, and she explained inside. without uncertain terms: “I’ll tell you something, Elvin. You see, I don’t ‘serve’ Dr. Huxtable, okay? That’s the kind of thing going on in a restaurant. Now I’m going to give him a cup of coffee just like he handed me a cup of coffee in the morning. And sin, young man, where marriage is made. It is a give and take, 50-50. And if you don’t bring it together, and let go of those macho ideas, you’re never going to take anyone with you, anywhere, anywhere, anytime, never. ”
Ricky no Rashad?
Huxtable’s female mother was perfectly represented by Rashad. Before you star Cosby Show, Rashad was present and he graduated from Howard University. She has appeared in several productions but is best known for playing Huxtable.
The surprising reason Rashad was thrown for the job was because she spoke fluent Spanish after she stayed there until her sister got a dance job. There was a time when Cosby Showmother should have been feisty Latina.
Cosby explained: “Clair was also going to be Dominican, and her mum and dad spoke Spanish – which was against it. [I Love] Lucy. I am the one who did not understand when she spoke Spanish. The idea was to report on Ricky Ricardo from I Love Lucy. When Ricardo became embarrassed, the audience knew immediately as he would launch into a Spanish tirade. Writers thought that if he did a script and had a female lead who would do the same for a great comedy. ”
Rashad’s character ended up not reporting on Ricardo, even though she speaks Spanish in the pilot program. The character of Huxtable matriarchs embodied a woman with strength, experience, and charisma. Over time, Rashad’s role took on more humorous stories but he always remained the family’s core force.
