However, Presley spent some time in the army when he was drafted. In 1958 he joined the army and was stationed in West Germany, where he would meet his future wife, Priscilla Presley, who was just 14 at the time of their first meeting there. in 1959. Presley left the army in 1960, but continued. his relationship with Priscilla. They married in 1967 and then divorced in 1973 after having a daughter together, Lisa Marie.

Presley’s life was interrupted in the ’70s. Presley was first reported to have died of a heart attack on August 16, 1977 at just 42 years of age. But Presley would injure himself in a strange accident while filming. According to the official blog for Graceland, the sprawling home of Memphis, Tennessee where Presley lived, Graceland.com reporting that Presley was performing the dance practice for a landmark moment in the film at the time.

Fans who have seen the film know exactly what moment we are talking about. Presley sings his famous “Jailhouse Rock” and shifts his to the music in a dance-by-dance number. But when it came to performing for the camera, the toothpick disintegrated and he inserted it into his lungs. It must have been a terrifying time for everyone around him, and Presley had to have surgery to remove the cap. The work involved separating the vocal cords, but fortunately no permanent damage was done. According to the website, that’s why Presley’s character, Vince Everett, is injured on his throat and vocal cords at the end of the film when he’s punched in the neck.

Fortunately for Presley, he recovered from the injury and went on to make more music and films before dying in 1977.
