On the evening of January 5, 2020, Georgia’s senatorial runoff selection was being closely monitored across the country. Several Hollywood celebrities – actors, singers, directors, etc. – have lent their talents, time and money in an attempt to elect Democrats John Ossoff and Raphael Warnock to the United States Senate. Their election would include Republican rulers David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, and that would mean something important to Democrats: a majority in the Senate. On election night, one actor tweeted directly to Saturday Night Live the creator Lorne Michaels, offers to play Ossoff on the upcoming events of SNL.
‘SNL’ 2021 could open with Georgia-related debate
SNL Politics has always been, and 2020 was an exception. Jim Carrey came on to play Joe Biden, and Alec Baldwin reiterated his role as President Trump in an open-ended take of the president’s debates.
So it will be interesting to see what – if anything – Saturday Night Live doing with Georgia election.
Although the debate over the recent rehearsal election took to Twitter, and attracted attention from across the country, it is possible that some of that momentum will die prematurely. SNL coming back into the air.
The Saturday Night Live social media accounts have been pretty quiet lately, so we’re not sure when the show returns in 2021.
However, one actor / writer / director is in charge of the action, if he has Michaels SNL writers have to play someone for their Georgian grandfather, Ossoff: Zach Braff.
Actor Zach Braff wants to be cast as John Ossoff
There is no word yet on whether or not it is SNL even wanting Braff – or anyone to play Ossoff. We will have to wait and see what the 2021 season is all about – for politics, and Saturday Night Live.
