‘Silence of the Lambs’ Star Anthony Hopkins Thought It Sounded Like a Kids Movie, Refused to Finish Script

The silence of the lambs celebrating 30 years this year. The film opened on February 14, 1991 and went on to scoop the Top 5 Oscars (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actor and Best Modified Play) a year later. Anthony Hopkins gave Hannibal Lecter such an idea that they are going backwards Red Dragon so that he could take part in it. Jodie Foster would only play Clarice Starling once.

The silence of the lambs is nothing but a children’s film. Lecter is the ultimate serial killer, and he helps Clarice capture Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine). Not familiar with Thomas Harris ’novel before reading the script, Hopkins thought the title was all about friendly little sheep.

Foster frightened Hopkins as well. Foster had just won her first Oscar The Accusation ro The silence of the lambs.

“Then we met at the offices and I couldn’t believe my luck,” Hopkins told Foster. “I was afraid to talk to you. I thought, ‘She just won an Oscar. ‘”
