Growing up, Sarah Paulson wanted to be Julia Roberts

Before becoming a star as she is today, Paulson aspired to be the next leading woman in romantic comedies.

During an interview on the Off camera by Sam Jones podcast, Paulson talked about not making a “big, big *, popcorn movie” – the kind of movie you would “grab your friends and go watch. ”The Paulson we know has never gone after these types of roles.

“It was never something I was looking for,” Paulson explained. “Except when I was very young. I wanted to be Julia Roberts. Paulson believed that success meant imitating Roberts’ role directly.

“I wanted to be the kind of winner, the person of charm, the kind of deceiver in America because I thought that’s how you define success,” she said.

When Paulson did not reach Roberts’ fame, she had to change her view of success.

Sarah Paulson redefined success when she met Ryan Murphy

Paulson and Murphy have grown into a dynamic duo. From her various roles in The American Horror Story to her latest effort at Murphy, Ratched, Paulson is grateful for her relationship with the master of entertainment.

“[I redefined success] when I met Ryan Murphy, where he was drowning and [success] it appeared to me, ”said Paulson.

What Paulson realized was all she ever wanted to do as an actress.

Sarah Paulson says her life has been ‘made worse’ after she played Marcia Clark

“She has a real faculty to be someone else,” Murphy said The New York Times. “If I said, ‘Sarah, next year you’re going to play Pope Francis,’ she would say, ‘All right!’ ”

Taking on the role of chief prosecutor in the OJ Simpson murder case was something Paulson said had “unsustainably changed” her life. After winning a Primetime Emmy for leading actress in a limited edition series, Paulson joked that her life was “getting worse.”

Before she won big, Paulson was under the impression that her career as an actress would be easier after claiming an Emmy. Ironically, Paulson says it made things more challenging.

“[You think] ‘Is that it?’ ”She said on the podcast. “Am I ever going to get a part that is so interesting and exciting and challenging and scary and relaxing with people? Am I ever going to take the opportunity to fight hard for a character while I do it? Is it ever so important to me? ”

Paulson’s fears came because of her deep connection to Clark’s career. Fortunately for Paulson and his fans, she continues to take on iconic roles as the acclaimed Nurse Ratched.
