Rob Lowe Once Admitted to Straying From ‘Little House on the Prairie’ Star Melissa Gilbert While Filming ‘The Outsiders’ – But 1 of the Greasers Didn’t Chase Girls

Rob Lowe and Melissa Gilbert set a date for several years, starting when she was only 17 years old. The passionate young couple were intimately connected, both physically and emotionally, but it involved infidelity on both sides. They broke up in 1987 after being involved for a year.

When Gilbert and Lowe began dating, Gilbert was already well known for his role as Laura Ingalls on the Toilet on the Moor series. But Lowe was not famous yet. His time, however, soon came to an end during his journey as Curtis’ Sodapop “Soda” The strangers (1983).

In his 2011 autobiography, Stories that I will only tell to my friends, Lowe looked back on his time filming his breakout movie.

Rob Lowe was in a long distance relationship with Melissa Gilbert while filming ‘The Outsiders’

The strangers the incredible coming-of-age drama was based on a novel by SE Hinton and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The compelling story, which spawned the popular Brat Pack films from the 1980s, focused on two groups of rough-and-tumble teenagers in Oklahoma in the 1960s.

The Greasers of the working class – who were engaged to the Socs, a gang from the “right” side of the tracks – were played by Lowe, C. Thomas Howell, Patrick Swayze, Tom Cruise, Emilio Estevez, Ralph Macchio, and Matt Dillon. Diane Lane Sherri played “Cherry” Valance, one of the Socs girls who eventually sympathized with the Greasers.

The strangers was filmed for nearly two intense months in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On set, a deep connection was formed between many of the young actors. Pranks and events abounded – including a regular ritual of going down to the hotel lobby together after long days of filming to find local girls.

In the history itself, Lowe admitted that he was in a long distance relationship with Gilbert at the time. But she was in Los Angeles, and the set of it The strangers it began to become a small world in its own right. Eventually, he was tempted to get lost.

Patrick Swayze did not join

Lowe and his young constellations, most notably Dillon, went to their “hobby” hotel lobby to follow different women with aplomb.

“We’re all teenage boys, so you can imagine how committed we are to this hobby,” Lowe joked in her own story.

In fact, he is just one of the stars of The strangers they did not take part. “It looks like only Swayze, who is married, is happy to look to the side with a terrifying smile,” Lowe wrote.

Swayze played Lowe’s brother, Darrel “Darry” Curtis in the Coppola movie. About the time it was thrown in The strangers, had already been married for ten years to Lisa Niemi Swayze, whom he met at the Houston Ballet Company when they were both teenagers. Both dancers, they often collaborated and pursued careers in the arts together as young adults.

Unsurprisingly, Swayze stopped dating Lowe and the other teenage stars at The strangers when it came to running girls in Oklahoma. The Swayzes shared a long, beautiful love story; they were married for over 30 years until his death from pancreatic cancer in 2009 (Good housekeeping). Six years the Dirty dance star died, he co-starred with his wife inside One last dance, a special film she wrote and directed.
