Thanks to his portrayal of Simon Bassett in the latest Netflix event, Bridgerton, more people are happy with Regé-Jean Page than ever before. The actor was somehow able to play a character who was equally sexually charged, sweet, brutal, and wounded with great success. As Duke Hastings lives a life that is very different from Pages in many ways, the transformation is popular with fans. But just how could Page play their part with that conviction?
Unlike other actors, Page doesn’t like to talk about his creative process much. According to the For the People alum talks about his process removing some of the magic of stories. Fortunately, the Bridgerton recently a fan star added a few insights into how he prepared for Simon. In an interview with Who wears The actor admitted that he started with these books Bridgerton based on, but did not have much confidence in.
Regé-Jean Page is reluctant to share his acting process
“I’ve always loved letting people behind the curtain,” Page admitted. “The magic of this business is that you get to see the trick but you don’t want to know how the wizard does it. Obviously, I started with the book. The store material is always a really nice resource, but I tried to find that out as early as possible. As soon as I knew I had gotten the job, I read the book until I quickly forgot the book. ”
From there, the Page process took a slightly neutral, but infinitely more interesting turnaround. According to the actor, he had a lot of conversations with Bridgertonwardrobe department. According to Page, there is a lot to learn from a character by learning about what type of clothing they are restricted to.
How the actor prepared for his role in ‘Bridgerton’
“And then I had a lot of conversations with the wardrobe department, which was really interesting and in-depth about what the clothes say about the people and why they wear them,” Page said. “We talked a lot about Simon being in Byron-ic collars because he’s this kind of Byron-ic hero.”
The Bridgerton the actor went on to say that he started learning about the details of his clothes. ‘We talked about all of these things, what the patterns would be on the suits, and what we could bring in to get this feeling of travel and the outdoors. That translates into the costume and from the costume then comes back to developing the character. ”
A page reveals why he sees character shoes as important
Page was particularly interested in learning about Simon’s shoes. But this part of his character preparation was not unique to Simon, but something he does for every role he is asked to play. “It’s a bit of a cliché, but it starts with the shoes,” Page admitted. “You walk out in someone else’s shoes, and I like to do that literally. The first thing I do at work is ask for the shoes or boots so I can walk around them at home while I work and lift from the ground up. ”
Page certainly had a unique way of preparing for his career there Bridgerton. While we’re sure he didn’t share everything he did to create such a rich character, we consider him pulling back the curtain a bit and letting us know the magic.
