Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett released music videos for their “driver’s license” (January 7) and “Lie Lie Lie” (January 14) within a week of each other. Fans are already linking the dots between the two Disney + High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star music videos, wondering if the two songs were written about each other.
Read on to see what the Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett music videos look like.
It’s interesting why Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett are releasing songs and music videos in the same week
Rodrigo and Bassett are connected actors and singers because they both appear on Disney + ‘s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. The young stars play love interests on the show, Nini and Ricky, and fans have profited whether the two have been romantically involved in real life, too.
While people have found out if the songs themselves are related, neither Rodrigo nor Bassett have confirmed the rumors. Rodrigo spoke to Apple Music ‘s Zane Lowe in interview about “driver’s license” and where the song came from.
“I wrote most of the song literally crying in my living room, and I think that feeling for him for sure,” Rodrigo told Lowe.
“I was driving around my neighborhood, listening to sad songs and crying in the car, and I got home and I was like, ‘Maybe I wrote a song about this, crying in the car, ‘”Rodrigo said of creating her first impression. “So I sat down at my piano and picked up my favorite chords, and so it happened. But it was really, really natural and organic. I am deeply writing in the depths of my feeling. ”
What Rodrigo’s ‘driver’s license’ music video shows
Rodrigo’s music video for “driver’s license” shows Rodrigo driving in a white car at night with a purple light. Flash scenes of Rodrigo walking down a suburban street while playing a small keyboard on the ground.
Rodrigo also sings in a parking lot full of cars, and she lies on a bed with someone else, though the face is hidden. At one point, during the song bridge, Rodrigo hangs out of the side of the car as he moves. (Don’t try this at home, folks!)
Much of the “driver’s license” music video is shown at night, perhaps symbolizing the dark loneliness that Rodrigo could feel when she talked about crying in a car before writing the the song.
How Rodrigo ‘s video might be related to Bassett’ s
Bassett’s music video for “Lie Lie Lie” fell just a week after “driver’s license” and Bassett can be seen in daylight for most of the video, until the end, which shows lights shining and Bassett hanging out of a car in the same way as Rodrigo.
Fans pointed out that Rodrigo is wearing a jacket similar to the one worn by the character Bassett Ricky HSMTMTS. In addition, they noticed that both Rodrigo and Bassett hang the side of their cars in their music videos, a well – known parallel from the artists – regardless or not.
However, both Rodrigo and Bassett have worked together on songwriting in the past, and the duo are currently filming season two of HSMTMTS, so the music video parallels may be just a coincidence and a sign of similar creative scenes. One thing is for sure though – we can’t wait to see more from these two artists.
