McConaughey and Alves have a love story that not many people could dream of living through, and McConaughey will never refuse to go away in revealing their intimate details. In a recent interview with Access to Hollywood, he remembered when he knew he wanted to marry Alves.
“It was probably about two years later [we met], and we had been going back, and it had been going very well, and she had come out to the set set with me in Australia on film, Fool’s gold, ”McConaughey recalls. “And I had never brought anyone, male or female friends with me – no one even visited. When I go to work, I guess, there in my trailer or where I rent a house, and that’s all I do. I go to work, come home, and do it again, and I enjoy my happiness. … ”
A romantic getaway for McConaughey confirmed that Alves is the one
While abroad, the two took a short vacation in Papua New Guinea where they enjoyed a romance. While they were there, they had a close conversation that changed things forever.
“… Well, I wanted her to come out with me, and she did,” McConaughey continues. “We had taken a long weekend vacation to a small surf spot in Papua New Guinea, where we lived as a stay in this little treehouse in the middle of the hill, it was beautiful. … Day five, I really felt like I was falling in love with her and this is the woman I want to spend the rest of my time with, and I wish I could she is the mother of children we can create. And I asked her very nervously, I said ‘What do I have to do to lose you? ‘And she was so nice about it … She looked out, and she made it real, she said,’ Oh, that’s easy. ‘ And then he looked at me and said ‘Change.’ ”
According to McConaughey, he knew at that very moment that he needed to make sure of things with Alves.
“Oh, I fell. I was like, look, amen, all on board, I’m in, let’s go. And that’s when I was really like, ‘Here’s the guy.’
Matthew McConaughey says Camila Alves ‘floated on air’ when they first met
In the same interview, McConaughey recalled her first meeting with Alves at a club in Los Angeles, and how she seemed to be “floating” around the room.
“In my eyes, she made sure,” McConaughey said. “She went back and did the maths, she was definitely walking on the floor, but as far as I could tell, her head wasn’t baking. She was just sliding around the room. … I was outside, holding a court at a table doing some margaritas, and this figure, about 20 feet in front of me, moved from my right to the left… I remember continuing without even thought about it and I said ‘What is that? ‘I didn’t say’ Who’s that? ‘ I said ‘What’s that?’ … ”
After seeing Alves across the room, McConaughey invited her and her friends to his table to get to know each other. Although Alves was not available to go out on a date the next night, the two were able to reconnect and the rest is in history.
