LOVE: Matthew McConaughey had ‘Brain Worked Better’ when he appeared for the role of ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ – ‘I had an incredible amount of mental energy’

Although McConaughey saw great financial success from his careers in romantic comedies, he grew tired of playing the same kind of roles. He wanted more jobs he could grind his teeth, forcing him to turn down a lucrative job in Rom-com that would have paid him $ 14.5 million. Instead, he decided to wait patiently for a position that could successfully reflect his field, according to an interview with Access to Hollywood.

“… It was a time in my life where I was really successful with Rom-coms,” McConaughey said. “I enjoyed making them, they paid me handsomely. It’s just, I started to feel like I had the Rom-com script tonight, oh I could do it tomorrow morning. And I wanted to find something that made me sweat in my shoes. Something like, ‘Ooh, I don’t know what to do with this post, but I dive in and find out. ‘I was looking for new challenges, so the new challenges I wanted – those plays – weren’t coming my way. … In the end I said no, and I think that helped to signal, too, to a lot of people in Hollywood that ‘Oh, McConaughey’s not bluffing’… ”

Matthew McConaughey stopped receiving offers for 20 months after he turned down Rom-com positions

“… Nothing came in, not one offer for anything,” McConaughey said. “The phone didn’t ring, and then after 20 months away, after being unbranded, not in a theater or living room in any romantic comedies , without which I have not seen a shirt on the beach, ‘Where is McConaughey? ‘After 20 months, I became a great new idea, I think, to various directors, treasurers, producers in Hollywood, and I started getting the kind of careers I was looking for.’

Matthew McConaughey considered other professions when Hollywood stopped calling

During his time away from the big screen, McConaughey considered several OTHER professions. His uncertain future in the film industry had led to careers ranging from teaching to wildlife management.

“Yeah, in those two years, in those 20 months where I wasn’t getting a job I was considering other jobs,” McConaughey admitted. “I didn’t know if I would get a job again in Hollywood. So I thought about becoming a basic teacher, I’m thinking of becoming a high school football coach, I’m thinking of becoming an orchestra conductor, a wildlife guide, I thought going back to law. … ”

Although he thought of making a career move, McConaughey is glad he didn’t have to give up acting for good.

“… I’m glad I was offered a job because I’m glad I didn’t go to any of those five things because now I can go and play one job, quit that job and another job to do. ”

McConaughey’s decision to change his brand paid off, as did his performance Dallas Buyers Club he won the Academy award for best actor.
