Live rock legend Lenny Kravitz is a master at hitting notes and radiating his talents on records and stages.
For many artists, it is natural to find other creative outlets where their interests emerge as hobbies or side events. Kravitz – an actor, Grammy – winning musician, and furniture designer – has found a number of ways to get into his art, and one of those ways is with an in – house design company.
Lenny Kravitz launched an interior design company in 2003
On a regular day, Kravitz keeps things low when it comes to celebrity. When he opened Kravitz Design Inc. in 2003, he wanted his company to stand on the merits of his interior design work and not on his reputation. He is involved in the process as well.
Back in 2012, Kravitz spoke to the New York Times about his business. “People are often surprised when I’m at the building wearing the hard hat,” he said. “I’m fully involved. There would be no reason to do it if I am not 100 percent committed. “
His company works on residential and commercial properties, with projects ranging from condominiums in Miami to New York restaurants to homes in Paris. It also has jam hotels. Kravitz and his team add touch to venues of any size, and in particular handled the set for the Queen Latifah speaking show.
Kravitz received design inspiration during childhood
In several interviews, Kravitz mentioned that he acquired design consciousness from a young age. The people, places, and things from childhood influenced his creativity.
He said Iris Elle as a child, he looked around his room to understand how things worked. He grew up from there.
“When I recorded my first album [Let Love Rule, 1989] I had no money, so to furnish my furniture, I would find and repair old furniture that other people would throw away, creating my own style, ”explained Kravitz. “I think it all started there. I never designed in a real school, but instead, studying for me meant observing. ”
Kravitz also designs furniture
Kravitz’s love for design goes beyond interior design and architecture. He extends his ideas to crafting pieces such as chandeliers, furniture, cameras, and wallpaper. Kravitz has been creating canndeliers for years and has even teamed up with Swarovski to make fixtures.
In terms of furniture, he launched a line with CB2. Products include chairs, stools, rugs, pillows and lights. Speaking to Elle, he cited Paul Evans, Gabriella Crespi, Joe Colombo, and Pierre Jeanneret as some of his furniture design inspirations.
In 2018, Dom Perignon he named it as its creative director and one of his tasks was to conceptualize a new bottle (in 2019) and present it for the champagne. Further, Kravitz put his camera skills to use and organized an all-international photo exhibition in partnership with the brand.
