El del Chapo, Sean Penn, became infamous for Kate del Castillo

At the height of her popularity for La Reina del Sur (Queen of the South), Kate del Castillo raised controversy when she compared corrupt Mexican government officials to El Chapo, saying at least you know what to get with the latter.

In 2012, she filed a petition to stop him from drug smuggling and trafficking for love and community. As she grabbed hold of the public, he caught their attention.

El Chapo’s legal team began contacting del Castillo and learned that he wanted her to make a film about his life. He trusted her. That was in 2014 and about a year later, she started communicating with him via text.

By 2015, Penn became interested in the El Chapo escape story. A friend who knew del Castillo connected the two actors. Del Castillo – who was about to meet El Chapo in person about the film – arranged for Penn and two producers to come in, thinking he was going to help with her project.

They met at the El Chapo hideout in October 2015 in the mountains while fleeing.

Penn published an article in the Rolling Stone in January 2016, which attracted the attention of the media, the DEA, and other government agencies in Mexico and the USA

But in the picture he painted of del Castillo – who had just become an American citizen – she was viewed as the paramour of El Chapo, a moneylender and lawyer.

Del Castillo maintains that Penn lied, betrayed him

During her conversation with the Estefan family on it Red Table Conversation, del Castillo said Penn was lying and adding to his piece. She said he used it for a meeting and for the “bullsh * t” story.

According to her, a number of incidents have never occurred, including the weapons checkpoint that Penn is referring to. “He’s a * shole! There was never a checkpoint, ”she said.

Del Castillo also alleges that Penn picked up the article idea while sitting at the table with El Chapo, and caught it from a guard. The whole meeting was supposed to be a secret relationship and he never told her about the article. “I was like waiting, this wasn’t in the script. ”But she could not call at the end of the quarter.

“I couldn’t face it because it is [El Chapo] going to notice that something is wrong and this man will be dead in the blink of an eye, ”she said. They left the meeting unscathed, and del Castillo, after returning to the States, admitted that she and Penn were involved in a brief sexual attempt.

But after Penn’s story hit shelves, del Castillo was leaked to the media, was under investigation by the Mexican government for criminal activity, and her family went into hiding. She said his story was “full of sh * t” and after it came out, she stopped talking to him.

“He used me as bait and then he didn’t protect me. And he put my life, and the life of my parents, and the life of my sister, and everyone around me. ”

It was later revealed that Penn and his peers had struck a secret contract with Rolling Stone prior to the meeting and were protected under journalistic privileges.
