Kanye West’s controversial run for president

On July 4, 2020, fireworks were not the only things lighting up on social media. Kanye West, the rapper who is married to Kim Kardashian West, announced his candidacy for the presidency, saying he would run in the 2020 presidential election. Although several people thought the singer controversial mockery, West declared him dead heavy, writing in a tweet: “We must now deliver on America ‘s promise by trusting in God, uniting our vision and building our future. I’m running for president of the United States 🇺🇸! # 2020VISION. ”

Many critics opposed West for his choice, saying he mocked the election process. Celebrities such as Meghan McCain spoke out in the days after his announcement, saying West’s “erratic” behavior should be banned from running. However, there were his supporters, with some saying West was the right candidate for shaking up issues in Washington.

How many votes did Kanye West get?

He had a gloomy start, but in the months since his announcement, Kanye West’s campaign went through even more shakes. He dropped out of the race once or twice, before saying he was back in the run. He did not meet deadlines to appear on the ballot in a few states, and after several celebrities like Jennifer Aniston encouraged fans on social media not to vote for the West, he was his campaign seemed to be failing.

Eventually, West ended up appearing on the ballot in a dozen states, including Tennessee, Colorado, Arkansas, and Vermont. Overall, West had a very poor display at the polls, reportedly receiving less than 60,000 votes. As reported by Press release, West received the most votes in the state of Tennessee, racing up to 10,000 votes. However, it wasn’t enough to make West a big contender for the leadership, and in the early hours of November 4, West posted the race on his Twitter account.

Willie Nelson received write-in votes at this year’s election

Kanye West was not the only celebrity to get some votes during this year’s election. according to Stateman, several musicians received writing votes, including, in particular, Willie Nelson. The report states that Nelson received a total of four writing votes in the state of Vermont, which was eventually announced for President Joe Biden.

Several celebs with other big names got writing votes, including Oprah Winfrey, Tom Brady, Betty White, Keanu Reeves, Tony Danza, and, perhaps surprisingly, Santa Claus, the mythical holiday figure. The report also reveals that this is far from the first time that Willie Nelson received writing votes at a presidential election – and that the image of country music has been considered a run for political office on several occasions. Given the strangeness of this campaign season, it looks like elections will only continue to get worse – and the 2024 election should be particularly interesting.
