Julie Andrews Once Got a Surprise Performance of Her Favorite Song From ‘The Sound of Music’ That Brought Her to Tears

Julie Andrews has been in the show business for decades

Andrews ’long career began on stage seven decades ago. She followed in her parents’ footsteps and sang with them while they played at night, and even toured the country with them.

Andrews made his Broadway debut the day before his 19th birthday in the 1954 album The boy friend, which had been successful throughout the lunch. She then starred as Eliza Doolittle in the Broadway production of My Lady in 1956.

Her performance in the Disney album Mary Poppins she won her first Academy Award. When asked about her favorite song from the film, Andrews is honest with her answer.

“I have several, but the one that has been repeated over the years is a song that I didn’t, in fact, sing in the film, and that’s ‘Edelweiss,'” Andrews said. “It’s such a beautiful tune and so beautifully made up that it’s all about anyone’s home country. And I’ve sung it many times in a concert, and that’s the one that’s stayed with me all those years. “

In the early 1980s, two decades later Mary Poppins breakout, Andrews was the subject of another Oscar-winning film for her: Victor / Victoria. The film was turned into a stage musical in the ’90s, with Andrews reiterating his role as the titular character. The show opened on Broadway in 1995 and ran for nearly two years.

Her last performance in the show was Andrews treated surprisingly with her castmates after the call of courts. “Gentlemen, I have been asked to say a few words on behalf of this company that will be saying goodbye to our sweetheart Jules this afternoon,” said her co-star Tony Roberts, “and I know I will speak. for everyone inside this building who had the great fortune of being part of her family for the past two years without us financing those memories for the rest of our lives. ”

Roberts held Andrews’ hand and looked at her. “You make a family wherever you go and we are all honored to have spent two years in your presence,” he continued. “As a way of saying goodbye, we’d like to sing one of your favorite songs.”

The concert began with “Edelweiss” playing and Andrews’ face lit up. But there was one other surprise in a source: in the last part of the song, i The Sound of Music Co-star Christopher Plummer took to the stage to wild applause while wearing the Captain von Trapp costume from the film and accompanying the singing.

Andrews was very active and needed a towel to wipe away his tears. When the heartfelt obedience was over, she was speechless, saying, “Don’t you think that today was a sad day ?! ”
