Jessie J is known for her beautiful voice and ability to strike notes that most other singers cannot hope for. Since Jessie’s career is music, her strong sense of listening is crucial to her work. Unfortunately, the singer was recently diagnosed with Ménière’s disease, an inner ear disorder that affects a person’s hearing and balance. Now, she’s clearing rumors of the disorder and the hospital she’s been supposed to have recently made.
What is Ménière’s disease?
According to the Mayo Clinic, the disease affects the inner ear. It often leads to vertigo and hearing loss. In most people, the disorder only affects one ear.
Signs of the disorder include dizzy spells. “You have a sense of spinning that starts and stops fun, ”reads the Mayo Clinic. “Examples of vertigo occur without warning and usually last 20 minutes to several hours, but no longer than 24 hours. ”
People with this disorder can experience some hearing loss. “Hearing loss in Meniere’s disease can come and go, especially early,” says the clinic. “Ultimately, most people have a permanent hearing loss.”
Those with Ménière may also have tingling in the ear, known as tinnitus, and feelings of fullness in the ear.
Although it is a chronic condition, there are treatments that can help with the symptoms.
