“I had a depression that I definitely feel affected my stability of mind,” she explained. “I had got to LA and had some success and I realized that was not the answer. That wasn’t all there was to it. ”

She continued, “It made matters worse and I became suicidal and completely collapsed.”

“When you don’t just have control over your emotions, your thoughts, you feel completely and utterly out of control,” Pinkett Smith said.

The actress shared her “depression,” for years, even while she was taking medication and seeing therapists.

Pinkett Smith shared how she ‘left’

The actor took an inside look at what every day was like for her during that struggle. “Waking up in the morning was the worst part of the day,” she said. “And then it would take me, it would take me hours … so before the evening came, I was at least like, ‘Okay, I’m fine. ‘Then you go to sleep again and then …’ and it all started for her.

“When I left Prozac, I went on a long, long journey. I learned how to manage it to some extent but it was difficult, ”admitted Pinkett Smith.

She said treatment did not work in her situation, but she managed her mental health issues and found a way to “let go” of some beliefs. “I had to find my way, which is why it took so long. Now, thankfully, I’m not depressed, ”she said.

“I also think I need to get rid of some false beliefs. I had to let go and just deal with just what life is all about, ”said the actor.

It took her a long time to really be happy

During 2019 Red Table Conversation talking about relationships and marriage, Pinkett Smith said she felt happy for the first time.

“At the end of the day, knowing that you have someone else who will give you love for all that you are… Will has loved me through my worst ones,” she said. “And I did the same. Being able to love you in this way will bring your faith in the world together. ”

She continued, “I am 47 years old and I want you to know that this is probably the first year of my life that I can say, ‘I am happy,’ because that is how long the journey has been. ”

During the 2019 view on The Late Show, host Stephen Colbert asked Pinkett Smith about her opinion that she was finally happy, asking, “Why did it take so long and what did you mean by that? ”

The actress broke the reason it took so long to get to that location and how her focus on her journey changed.

“I really thought that happiness had a lot to do with happiness, and I realized that happiness is about peace,” explained Pinkett Smith. “I’m the most peaceful I’ve ever been in, so I’m the happiest.”
