Flo is more than just ‘the woman from Progressive’

Stephanie Courtney began playing the perky Flo in Progressive advertising in 2008, a gig she landed after moving to Los Angeles. The New York man studied acting in college and graduated from Binghamton University. Her theater background helped her excel in stand-up comedy, and she spent years honoring her craft.

Courtney wrote an article for Cosmopolitan in 2015 and shared one night in 1996, she got the chance to work with an agent – by catch.

Courtney moved to LA to pursue a career in entertainment and used to play with The Groundlings, a well-known alumni-listed theater / comedy company featuring Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, Will Forte , Kristen Wiig, and Will Ferrell.

She worked weird jobs to support herself, constantly hearing experiments, and also had small roles in advertising and TV shows like For Mad. Eventually, the part came for Progressive and she gave Flo a house name.

Courtney first burned the brand in December 2007 and launched in January 2008. Since then, she has appeared in TV shows such as Green eggs and ham and The Goldbergs.
