What do you get for the one who has it all this Christmas? If they are interested in cooking, Barefoot Contessa Ina Garten has holiday gift ideas, including one she says most people don’t have but she uses “all the time.” Bonus, it is extremely cheap and makes good stocking stuffers.
Ina Garten shares her compliment for the perfect Christmas gift
During a Dec. 11 conversation with Katie Couric, fans asked the Food Network a number of questions. Since she really knows everything related to kitchen and cooking, one fan asked if she had any gift suggestions.
“What are some of your favorite kitchen products – someone looking for gifts – who loves to cook,” Couric asked Garten.
The Barefoot Contessa had some ideas you might not have thought of. “You know, everyone has two things… there are very few people in their kitchen that I use all the time. And I think they would be a great gift to give to someone who is a chef. ”
“One is the governor,” Garten said. “Most people don’t have a controller in the kitchen.” She explained, for example, how a ruler can help measure a pan or cut things to a certain size.
“I always use a ruler. And also, a recipe says to dice something half an inch and I always want to check and make sure I’m doing it right, ”she said.
Like those same lines, Garten said scale is useful so you can be precise if a recipe requires a pound or a half pound. “If you have a batter that makes two cakes, it’s good to know that it’s decidedly balanced between two cakes,” Garten said.
She offered up the third gift idea – a microplane for zesting citrus. “I always think that citrus peel has a lot more flavor than juice,” she said.
Ina Garten unveiled her favorite Christmas biscuit
In keeping with the holidays, Garten was asked about her favorite Christmas cookies and had an elegant suggestion for a dough that makes a variety of different cookie choices, including her favorite.
Garten uses her basic dough shortbread recipe to make a number of biscuits, cutting it into different shapes. Her favorite is linzer biscuits, which sandwich a raspberry jam between two heart loaves.
“I make these linzer biscuits which are in heart bread with raspberry jam in the middle, I make thumb biscuits that have juice in the thumb … that’s my favorite mix.” division i.
Garten said, “All I really do is make that one basic dough, the cridhe single-hearted biscuits, you can make all kinds of biscuits.”
During the Dec. 14 show on the Today show, Garten shared why she loves the best linzer mix. “That’s my favorite. There is something about sweetbreads and raspberries together that I think is very tasty. Simple but very good. ”
