It’s a shame to blame your ex for a failed relationship, but Lopez says after going to treatment that she learned her problems with Anthony that they didn’t have much to do with. In her book, True love, she says she had to do a lot of work to heal her feelings. She says she also learned how her affairs played a part in some of her conflicts with Anthony.

“[The problems] I wasn’t about anyone else – they were about me, ”Lopez wrote. “And there were a lot of problems. One, I found that I didn’t have much self-esteem, that I had never seen as a person. Two, I worked on learning what integrity meant, which would bring about big change. ”

Lopez says that most would have expected her to feel sad about her failed marriage, but she does not. Instead, she says she feels proud. She feels good about herself for getting through such a difficult time in life.

“It would be easy to look back on those years before the divorce and think, ‘Oh, this is a sad story. That was so hard, ”Lopez wrote. “But I don’t feel that way anymore. Now, when I look back, I feel something completely different – pride. ”

Jennifer Lopez says she learned to love herself

Low fear and self-esteem kept Lopez in relationships longer than she should have. She says she has learned to love how she treats others.

“For so many years, when I was in bad situations, I was afraid to leave them,” Lopez wrote. “Then, somehow, I finally discovered that little love thing that was in me that said, ‘Hey, you deserve better. ‘And I did something about it, so scary. ”

Lopez also says she is proud that she can now make better choices for herself and her children. “Finally, after 40 years, I was able to understand what I was doing wrong,” Lopez continued. “[I’m] proud that once I was okay with the fact that it was just enough for me, I became a better version of myself – as a man and even as an actor. ”

First, the singer says that she felt bad because it took her so long to prove her mistakes. However, she now accepts that she is “a job in progress.” She knows that transformation takes time.

“I’m still learning,” Lopez continued. “When you’ve been doing things a certain way for your whole life, you can’t suddenly behave differently overnight. It will take time. You have to start getting used to it, and little by little, you keep working, and eventually it becomes second nature. We all redirected ourselves, cast doubt on our own instincts, and forget to love ourselves. Part of loving yourself is about forgiving yourself. “
