There’s a new action role within Disney Channel and it’s changing against Disney’s all-white action team. Here’s what we know about Theresa Helmer, her recent promotion, and why it’s so important to this television network.
Disney Channel inspired Theresa Helmer to a new role with the television network
This television network aimed at Theresa Helmer ‘s children recently moved to a new role, Executive Director, Strategy and Integrated Content Development, in an effort to promote inclusion within Disney Channel and its leaders.
“Theresa’s unwavering determination, vision and passion have contributed to contributing to our diversity, inclusion and relevance efforts,” said Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer, Disney Channels Worldwide in Deadline prohibitive. “In this new role as part of the senior management team, the board will have a chair that will allow it to further reinforce how we can truly show under-represented numbers in our storytelling. “
Prior to this new role, Helmer was Director, Social Media Strategy for marketing group Disney Channel. according to Forbes, “Earlier this year, Disney executive chairman Bob Iger pledged to diversify the largely white, male action leadership team by 2021.”

This wasn’t Disney’s only inclusion campaign
While some believe it is too late, about a year earlier, Disney added another inclusion campaigns at different levels. That includes “the Action Incubator Program,” which aims to create a pipeline of next-gen network operators, as well as the “Walt Disney Television Studio Internet Program,” which will provide a career path for diverse behind-the-scenes talent.
These are, of course, in addition to the Disney College Program, which gives students a real experience at one of the Disney theme parks, including Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
Disney Channel and Disney + introduced a few new TV shows and characters
Within its legs and television shows, Disney Channel and Walt Disney Company as a whole have been slowly adding new voices to their stories. In 2014, Disney Channel had its first LGBTQ moms, with the show Good luck Charlie.
The first season of the original Disney + show, Secondary Music: The Musical: The Series featuring two openly gay characters, Seb and Carlos, who even went on to return home together.
The Disney + streaming platform is also creating a new version of the animated series, T.e Proud Family showing the original team, with the title The Proud Family: Louder And Prouder. Of course, there are several Disney Channel series available on Disney +, such as That is Raven and Wizards of Waverly Place.
