George Clooney Used To Sell Women’s Shoes Before Becoming a Hollywood Superstar

George Clooney is one of the most famous actors in the film industry today, but it took him a while to get there. It took several years for him to succeed as an actor, and he had to work a number of odd jobs before coming to permanent positions.

During that time he had a handful of random shows, but one thing that stands out the most is his work as a women’s shoe retailer. Thanks to his time in sales, he has a handful of stories about dealing with women and their feet.

Although Clooney has a net worth around it $ 500 million today, things were difficult in his early years in Hollywood.

“The fact of the matter is, the first two years I was broke,” Clooney said Howard Stern. “I was sleeping on the floor or in the closet and I didn’t have a car, I rode a bike all over Hollywood for auditions. ”

He worked a number of weird jobs to get over it

Clooney took on a number of weird jobs to feed himself early on, but things changed once he got more consistent jobs.

“I did construction work and a lot of other work to get over,” Clooney said. “But once I started working, I was making enough money that I didn’t have to take another job.

Abolition was not an option for George Clooney

Despite the severity of the situation, Clooney never considered abandoning it. He looked at his career as a marathon, not a sprint.

“I always felt like, ‘I’m a traveling actor, I’m just going to keep plugging away, and hopefully, I’ll get some good rewards as I go. ‘I didn’t think I was going to get it – it was too late. I was 35 when it hit, so… ”

A major reason for his decision was his opinion that he had no other options.

“You don’t feel like,‘ I should give up, ’because obviously, what, was I going to give up, going back to selling women’s shoes? ”

One of Clooney’s most exciting weird jobs was being a women’s shoe salesman. Speaking to Stern, he recalled dealing with many women who would lie about the size of a foot.

“Selling women’s shoes is awesome,” Clooney said. “First of all, all the women are lying about the size of a foot. I don’t know why. They’ll be like, ‘This is seven,’ and you go, ‘This is 10.’ You’re trying to put these 10 in seven. ”

He also recalled seeing many women walking into the store with four toes on their feet, which was common at the time.

“And there was this whole generation of women, this is like 1979, 1980, and I worked in this department store,” Clooney said. “And there’s a whole generation of women who were probably born, like in 1910 or something, who got their fourth toe cut off so they could get into the pumps.”

He is thankful for the difficult times

Clooney confirms that his previous career experiences make him grateful for whatever role he takes on, whatever it may be.

“When I sand my bat nipples off, I still go, ‘I’m fine, man,'” Clooney said.
