Errol Flynn Was the R. Kelly of Old Hollywood

Harvey Weinstein was not the only monster in Hollywood. Now, thanks to the scores of victims coming up after the #MeToo movement, fans are seeing just how corrupt and intimidating the entertainment industry is. But this is nothing new. Before Weinstein, other predators lay behind the cameras. A scandal in Hollywood is basically as old as Hollywood itself. But after all the revelations, fans are starting to see old stars in a new light. Errol Flynn is one of the stars who doesn’t look good in today’s light.

Errol Flynn was a natural movie star

Flynn may not be as big of a name as any other Hollywood superstar, but the days were hugely popular. It looked good based on the flavors of the time, and it shone on camera. But he was troubled from the very beginning of his career, and perhaps he should never have progressed to a film set in the first place. Despite his difficult days, he was contracted by Warner Brothers to work in Hollywood and went on to appear in some of their greatest songs. . It appeared in a few other blows in the late 1930s, including The Adventures of Robin Hood, where he was cast as the hero, Robin Hood himself. But he used his strength to fund a wild lifestyle. Like Flynn, Kelly’s predatory behavior would come down to taking it down.

R. Kelly has lost everything because of the allegations against him. Several women have come forward alleging that they were trafficked or abused by Kelly. He is currently in a prison in Illinois awaiting trial, entirely according to Kelly. His music is no longer played on some streaming platforms, and many radio stations have taken it completely from the air.

The difference between Flynn and Kelly is a testament to how far we have come as a society. While Kelly has lost everything, including his best deal with Sony, Flynn was defended when teenagers came forward to accuse him of statutory rape. Nowadays, it’s hard to imagine a studio sending its own lawyers to represent an actor accused of such a heinous crime, but that’s what Warner did Brothers for Flynn.

Flynn, unlike Kelly, did not lose her career because of his crimes. He would go on to land roles in major films, even if he no longer played the director. It was his hard drink, not his crimes against women and children, that made him lose everything. Like Kelly, Flynn would have been in danger by the 1950s. He died in 1959, at just 50 years of age. At the time of his death, he was living in Alaska with an 18-year-old actress.
