Quintanilla and Perez’s relationship had a rocky start. The couple met in 1989 when Perez became a major guitarist at Selena Y Los Dinos. Perez fell for Quintanilla the moment he laid eyes on her. The musician also said that Quintanilla gave him a different side when they were together.
Perez remarried Venessa Villanueva in 2001, six years after Quintanilla died. Perez and Villanueva had two children together – Noah and Cassie, before they separated in 2008. Over the years, Perez has appeared at several events in honor of Quintanilla. In his memoir, the guitarist also said that he will always have fond memories of being married to Quintanilla.
“My life has gone on. More than anything, I am grateful to Selena for teaching me the meaning of love, ”Perez wrote. “I was lucky enough to be able to remarry and have children. I wish I could have a family with Selena, as we always planned; still, I know Selena was the one who made this possible for me. She showed me how I could lower my guard and accept life. ”
