Britt Stewart retired as a pro for the first time of season 29 of Dancing with the stars. Showbiz Cheat Sheet spoke to Stuart on the phone about the one thing she feels lucky to have been removed from her first engagement on DWTS.
Britt Stewart and Johnny Weir were eliminated in the semi-finals
A lot of fans were expecting a lot for the figure skater heading into season 29. From the start, it was clear that Johnny Weir had a knot for dance dancing. Ironically, Stewart told Showbiz that they were one of the few couples who missed a week and a half of practice before program 1 began.
Their lack of practice was just in a situation, but Weir was still going out and doing his best. Despite not having dance training, Weir worked with Stuart to master the skills necessary for every dance style. When he and Stuart were eliminated in the semi-finals, Stewart said they were horrified.
“It took us by surprise,” she told Showbiz. “We really hoped we would get the chance to do our freestyle.” Nevertheless, Stewart is delighted that she got to know Weir – someone she learned a lot from.
Britt Stewart and Johnny Weir embrace their own affirmative ideas
Weir has made Stuart’s first season as a pro Dancing with the stars bliss. As Stuart explained in our conversation, DWTS never had a couple like her and Weir before. Stuart is the show’s first Black female pro, while her male figure skating partner represents the ones who consistently push the boundaries between gender, gender, and sexuality.
Stuart was thrilled to have the opportunity to perform as his identity every week.
“We need to send a message to as many people as possible to prove themselves,” Stewart explained. “We did a great mix [the] lines [between gender and sex and race and sexuality]. So I’m proud of that. “
She also described Weir as a “speaker” she feels blessed to have met.
For Britt Stewart, the biggest friendship from her first season as a pro is Johnny Weir’s friendship
When asked what Stuart liked best about Weir, Stuart paused.
“Just one [thing]? ”She smiled. “I mean, as well as being literally blessed for my first season with an Olympic figure scaler and all that comes with that – the passion, the hard work and the dedication, the commitment to the process – the most special thing now is to have him as a friend. ”
Outside of Weir’s commitment to hard work, Stewart feels fortunate to refer to Weir as more of a colleague.
“We have built this beautiful friendship and partnership that cannot be changed,” she said. “Now we’re joking. We’re like, ‘Okay, we’re stuck together. There is no way we can get rid of each other. We are friends for life now. ‘”
For Stuart, that means the 29th most exciting season of Dancing with the stars.
Britt Stewart plans to keep Johnny Weir alive
Although their DWTS the journey is over, that does not mean that it is the end of Weir and Stuart ‘s friendship. Stuart has big plans to keep Weir alive.
“This is not the last thing Johnny and I do together,” said Stuart. “We are already trying to think of other ways in which we can work together and remain in each other’s lives. ”She has plans to visit him in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in the future as well.
