Baba Ijesha: Maximum sentence must be passed on actor – FG

Lagos Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu has made claims that the famous Nollywood actor, James Omiyinka, known as Baba Ijesha, who was arrested for minimization, will be bailed out.

Odumosu, who made this known to reporters on Thursday, said the charge against Baba Ijesha was for sexual assault and pornography available, not corruption.

It emerged, however, that the suspect was still being held at Panti State Crime Investigation Department (SCID) pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

“You don’t test newspaper pages. There are two cases in Baba Ijesha’s case. One allegation is that he harmed a girl seven years ago and at that time the police were not complied with.

“Last week there was a viral video in which he was arrested for sexual assault which could be described as sexual assault because he was without the victim’s consent.

“Baba Ijesha also admitted that he sexually assaulted the girl and that the corruption incident that occurred seven years ago is still under close scrutiny.

“Sexual assault is a criminal offense. It’s not like rape. No rape charge was made against him.

“We have compiled the case file and have sent it to the DPP’s office and the Lagos State Attorney General’s office for legal advice.

“As soon as that comes out, action will be taken based on legal advice. Until then, Baba Ijesha is still in our care, even though the case is available we did not consider it for bail, ”he said.
